In 2009 JCB Urban built six houses in the Belmont and Villa Heights communities adjacent to Uptown
Charlotte. The homes were 1,345 to 1,410 square feet with front porches, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. As
part of the Belmont redevelopment plan, JCB Urban has provided new affordable housing in an area of Charlotte that
provides convenient public transportation, greenway paths, parks and a renewed vitality. The desirable proximity
to Uptown, the NODA arts district and Plaza Midwood will certainly help the real estate market in this area to
grow in value in the coming years.
Through a combination of a no interest lot mortgage provided by the Charlotte Housing Authority, a Hope VI Grant
of $33,000 and a House Charlotte grant of up to $20,000, these houses were made very affordable to the purchasers.
In addition, the purchasers were all first-time home buyers that benefited from the $8,000 first time homebuyer
Federal Income Tax Credit.
The homebuyers were given
the option of adding tile, granite, hardwood flooring, recessed lighting and upgraded cabinetry. These design features
made each home unique and suitable to the taste of each of the buyers. While affordable, these homes had touches
and features usually found only in expensive custom housing.
JCB Urban was proud to participate with the Charlotte Housing Authority in providing affordable housing for this
community. |
